Jim Patton decided to narrow the focus of his financial services business to the areas of personal and business risk management because he saw too many situations where individuals, families, and businesses suffered severe financial consequences because they were not prepared for unexpected life events when those events occurred.  He witnessed friends whose lives were shattered because one of the spouses passed unexpectedly and had no plan in place to allow the other spouse to maintain his or her quality of life for the indefinite future.  He witnessed the same on several occasions when the primary bread winner became too sick or was injured and couldn’t work and had no plan in place to replace that person’s income so the family could maintain its quality of life.

Jim’s working life started when he graduated from Purdue University with a commission as a 2LT in the Army through Army ROTC.  He served twelve plus years in the active Army with assignments in Germany, Fort Sill, OK, Korea, and Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN.  Jim ended his active service serving as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Cornell University.  After leaving active duty, Jim served another eighteen years in the US Army Reserve.  During his service as an active Reservist, Jim served in various units including Civil Affairs, Psychological Operations, and logistics.  He retired as a Colonel after a total of thirty years of service.

After leaving the active Army, Jim worked in various human resource roles in the banking industry.   He left banking in 2000 to start the predecessor to Patton Health and Wealth, J Patton Consulting which provided consulting and coaching services to community banks and small business owners.  Jim entered the financial services world in 2014.

Today Jim focuses his practice on personal and business risk management in the areas of life, disability, health and long-term care insurance.  Jim approaches his clients as an educator who provides them with a risk assessment and offers them a selection of solutions to mitigate the potential consequences associated with those risks.

Jim’s educational achievements include a BS in Economics from Purdue University, an MBA from Oklahoma University, and an MS in Adult Education from Indiana University.  He is also a graduate of the US Army War College.  He earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation from the American College of Financial Services.

Outside of Patton Health and Wealth, Jim spends time with his wife of over fifty years, Janice.  He enjoys being outdoors and is a runner and hiker.  He is an avid reader.  He gives back to the community as a member of the board of directors of the Indiana Parkinson Foundation.
