Donna M Aguirre, Family Military Connections
My family have been involved in military as far back as the 1600.
One ancestor was a Captain in the Militia in 1600 in Connecticut.
Two of my ancestors fought in the American Revolution, John Higley and Robert Thorndyke.
My Grandfather was in the Spanish American War,
A few uncles in the civil war.
My first husband Thomas Ellis was in the Merchant Marine in WWII, and Military Sea Transport in Korean War.
Husband No. 2, Tony Aguirre, was in Navy WWII and Korean War, he was mostly on The Navasota. Piloting small boats
I have several uncles, nephews, cousins’ male and female in the army, navy, marines and air force in WWII and those after that . My cousins were very good at giving my name to other members who did not get mail so I became pen pals of at least 50 service men in WWII who I never met at all.
In more recent wars I had nephew, Navy chief, Brother, Granddaughter, cousins, in all branches. Son in law in Marines.
As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, we participate in many projects with the veterans, we provide knitted scarfs, give to operation gratitude, participate in handing out Vietnam Vet pins and projects as they come up.
