I am an Enrolled Agent, which is a license issued by the IRS that is earned by demonstrating proficiency in individual taxation, business taxation, and representation of taxpayers before the IRS. I am currently a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) and the Pennsylvania Society of Enrolled Agents, which are exclusively available to licensed Enrolled Agents. My journey to a self-employed tax practitioner was anything but traditional. In the fall of 2016, I started my undergraduate education at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. As a freshman in college, unsure of what I wanted to do, I started with a major in political science. I quickly learned that The McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government housed an incredibly dedicated faculty who invest in their students far beyond what is required of them. Eventually, I decided to take an introductory microeconomics course and decided to pursue that field. Mathematics played an important role in the upper-level courses, so I decided to pursue that as well. In May 2020, I graduated with a B.S. in Economics and Mathematics & Political Science.

Sophomore year of my undergraduate studies, I was introduced to the owners of the company that, unbeknownst to me at the time, would train me to be an organized and knowledgeable bookkeeper. I still manage their books (nearly seven years later) and am eternally grateful for the opportunities that they have presented to me over the years for personal and professional growth. My interest in economics had drawn me to graduate school, but there is just something about the tangibility of bookkeeping and tax accounting that has always commanded my attention. My employers afforded me the flexibility required for graduate studies and I enrolled in a PhD program at West Virginia University’s Department of Economics in the fall of 2020. In May of 2022, I earned an M.A. in Economics from West Virginia University and started thinking about what I wanted my future to look like. I had heard of the Enrolled Agent licensure around December of 2022 and started studying as soon as it was clear that I wanted it to be a part of my future.

I am currently a PhD candidate at West Virginia University and my research is focused on Macroeconomics and Monetary Theory with a specific focus on Bitcoin, Stablecoins, and cryptocurrency. As an economist, I am an advocate of Bitcoin (specifically, Bitcoin) because of its sound monetary policy and as an Enrolled Agent, I am well-versed in the rules regarding the tax consequences of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency transactions. On my website, you will see that I even accept payment for tax accounting services in Bitcoin! I wear many hats; I am a professor, student, business owner, and tax accountant. Regardless of which hat I am wearing, I give it my all and if you afford me and my firm the privilege of preparing your tax return, managing your company’s records, or advising you on the economics of your industry, you can be sure that you will receive my full effort and undivided attention. I started my business with one goal: To provide value. It would be my pleasure to find ways to provide value to you or your firm.

My family has a rich military heritage beginning with my great great grandfather, Greeley Strawser, who served with the U.S. Army Infantry Division in the Signal Corps during World War I in the European Theater. Both of my great grandfathers served during World War II: Fred C. Adams, who received a Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, and Rudolph Havrilla, who served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. My great uncle, Tim Havrilla, served over 20 years with the U.S. Army in the Old Guard unit, the oldest active-duty infantry serving the Washington Military District (since 1784), and which provides security as the official ceremonial unit and escort to the President, as well as guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at all times. More recently, my cousin, the late Jesse Dayton, served as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army Reserves and was deployed in Iraq.
