Proud Military Supporter With A Long Line Of Family Service
Military serving family members can be traced into the revolutionary and civil wars but most immediate is my father who served on the USS NEW during the Korean War. He was a torpedo man and left his career with hearing in only one ear. He was one of the first VA recipients of a cochlear implant that has helped him, most recently, hear out of both ears. My great uncles Mick, Ged, Wayne, and my uncle Tim all served in the Navy. One was in Vietnam, another was a Navy pilot who later piloted commercial jets for Alaska, another was in Navy intelligence. My uncle Ed served in the Army during peacetime. My great aunt Eileen was a WASP pilot and served in the United States Army Air Forces and put in more flight hours than you can imagine during WWII. She flew every kind of military aircraft across the Atlantic Ocean to deliver them to the bases in England, among many other things. She was presented the Congressional Gold Medal for her service and efforts. Her uniform and information are displayed in the air museum in Hood River, Oregon… Website link to article My father-in-law served in WW11 in the Army in Germany and was awarded the purple heart but refused it because he didn’t think he deserved it. Two of his son’s also served in the Army during the Vietnam war. Few ever talked much about their experiences but every one of them I currently know or knew them personally. Each of them trustworthy, hardworking, full of courage, integrity, serving with honor in their word and deed. Great examples for their ever-branching posterity and our great country.
