The country is under a shelter in place order to help flatten the curve and take control of the Coronavirus. We are all self quarantined in our homes and should be practicing social distancing when we need to go out for essential needs or exercise.
We may not be able to gather in groups, but it doesn’t mean that we can not encourage one another during Coronavirus. Trust me; everyone can use a little encouragement during this time.
Slide Into Your Friends’ or Family Members’ DM
Yeah, I know. You’re probably thinking, “I HATE text or messages to my inbox on social media.” Let’s make an exception for now. Make contact with those you haven’t had a real conversation with for a while.
So many of us are on social media these days. Sure, you can post encouraging words to your main social page, and should. But how about sending a personal message to check on family and friends. Say hello. Ask how they are doing. Request and schedule a time to chat on the phone or face to face via a chat app. Don’t cancel on that chat time. Connecting with others outside of your home is good for the soul. It’s also great to have outside interaction with others.
What do you talk about? Anything. Ask how they are doing? Share what’s been going on in your life. Just talk.
Smile In Passing
Even though we’re all practicing social distancing, it doesn’t mean you can’t smile at others in passing. While out on your walk or at the grocery store, smile.
Don’t get too close. Remain 6 ft away. A head nod and a smile can brighten someone’s day.
Plan A Virtual Session
Share your gift. Record yourself or go LIVE on social media singing, playing an instrument, telling jokes, reading a poem, leading a workout session, etc. Your gift may just be what others need at that moment.
Your gift may be what someone needs to help get through their day.
Say Thank You
We need to eat. Which means we need to head to the grocery stores or restaurants offering carry out services. You may also have doctor appointments, taking public transportation, receiving deliveries, etc. All of these services are still taking place because someone is leaving their home to provide these services to us.
Say, “Thank you.” Let essential employees know you appreciate them and that they are doing a great job. Let those words outweigh the complaints of the store being out of products or about the time people had to wait in line.
Showing gratitude goes a long way and means so much. Without our essential employees showing up, we would be at a standstill.
Everyone is handling this pandemic in different ways. As you talk to people, ensure you recognize their struggle, be positive, and be sincere.
Don’t forget to encourage yourself each day. Reaching out to others is needed, but it’s also important for you to reach out to yourself.
“Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome.”
