I served for about 6 and a half years. I enlisted in the US Air Force out of college and was trained as a Computer Operations Specialist. I was stationed at Offutt AFB in the SAC Underground CP where I established communication telcom nets for real world and emergency situations for SAC. I enlisted with the intent to become an officer but felt I needed some seasoning first. I did… However, the Air Force identified I had an aptitude for Electrical Engineering and offered to send me to any AFROTC program I wanted but as an Electrical Engineer. I wanted to be with troops, yea young and stupid… The Army offered me a Commission with a Masters Degree and I was all over that. I received a Regular Army Commission (yea water walker) with Military Intel who immediately branch detailed me to the Chemical Corp. The shame of it! So, I became the best darn Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Officer there was and was sent to the 8th ID (Crazy Eights) in Germany. I served there as the wall came down and during the Gulf War. I had a son during the war and had a higher calling to be a Daddy. War is always a mess and not everyone comes home. I left the military as a Captain. But I still miss it to this day.
My father served as a US Marine Corp Scout just prior to Vietnam. He was a Lance Corporal and considers himself very lucky. His unit held a sea deployment record in prep for Vietnam and when it eventually went in had a high casualty rate. I have a son in law who is a US Marine Corp Logistics Major now at Command and Staff College. For both my dad and son in law communication involves crayons and small words (😊). My son is a US Army Recruiter Staff Sergeant. He was a CBT Medic in the Stan and has far too may skeletons. My grandfathers were both builders during WWII, Ship Builder and Smith.
After Uncle Sam I went to work in the cable industry and quickly, because of my military experience, rose in the ranks to eventually running the largest Commercial Cable Operation in the country. From there I took over the number 2 slot in the 13th largest residential service area in the country. Eventually I returned to the Commercial business running the largest Audio/Video business in Florida. Over time I grew very tired of Corporate Americas Profit approach to employees and customers. It never matched my military training where the greatest resource is your troops. So, I had daughter in the mortgage business and was fascinated by it. I learned quickly and focused on doing the right thing becoming a top 20%er very quickly during a rough time in the industry. I love it, I get to help people achieve their dream of home ownership. I especially love helping fellow vets. It blows me away knowing that less than 13% of Vets use their mortgage benefit. I am a Certified Veterans Lending Specialist, less than 0.2% of loan originators carry that certification, so I am not at all casual about a VA loan. Let’s Do This! Charlie Mike!
