An increasing number of service members may need to address immigration legal matters. If you have questions about immigration, the American Immigration Lawyers Association Military Assistance Program provides free immigration legal services to active-duty service members, reservists, veterans and their immediate family members.
While installation legal assistance offices offer help for immigration issues, some of these legal matters may be complex and require the knowledge of experienced immigration attorneys.
A collaborative effort between the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the military legal assistance offices, the program was established in 2008 to provide additional legal support to immigrants in the military and their families.
Service members seeking assistance through the program should complete the client information form on the Military Assistance Program website. The information provided will be forwarded to a project coordinator who will attempt to match the case with an experienced immigration attorney. Immigration attorneys volunteer to help service members at no cost. While the program will do its best to locate an attorney who can assist, matching is not guaranteed. If and when an experienced immigration attorney is identified, the service member will be placed in direct contact with the attorney.
